Polish Jolly Rover Released!

That’s right, the awesome people at IQ Publishing have got the Polish version on sale already! This is the first retail version of Jolly Rover to be released and features a ton of bonus art, and a high-quality version of the game music compiled into a soundtrack!

Work on the Italian translation has started and the German translation should begin soon. The Italian and German versions, unlike the Polish version, will be text only. I’m not too fussed about this as I think it’s good for people to hear the original actors.

There’s a Steam indie bundle coming some time at the end of November too, you should be able to pick up Jolly Rover along with some other cool games. Pretty sure I can’t release the names of those games now, but they’re so cool I might just pick up the bundle myself!

Jolly Rover is Going Retail!

Little-known fact: Hermit Crabs love treasure.I’m pleased to finally be able to announce Brawsome’s deal with adventure game publisher Lace Mamba Global!

This deal is a worldwide exclusive deal with Lace Mamba for retail distribution and localisation into German, Spanish, Italian, Russian Polish and French. Brawsome is currently working with the publisher on the Polish localisation.

The retail version will come with exclusive extras including a high quality soundtrack and bonus concept and hi-res art as well as using uncompressed art assets for the game.

I personally couldn’t be happier with press and awards Jolly Rover has received, considering it’s a 2D point and click adventure; which is a credit to the awesome team that worked on the game. There’s been a lot of excitement around this announcement, and getting a physical copy of the game out there is a dream come true for me. Hopefully this will be allow me to keep doing what I love. Working with Lace Mamba is also really cool, as they really understand adventure games, and are a publisher of one of my favourite titles of last year – Machinarium.

Glenn Hayes, UK Sales Manager of Lace Mamba Global commented: “Jolly Rover is a fun, hilarious classic adventure game with dogs! The reviews have been good, and when we were presented with the opportunity to take this to retail worldwide we thought it would be lot of fun to work on a product of this sort!”

People can look forward to the Jolly Rover boxed version for PC & Mac in February 2011. The game can also be pre-ordered at Amazon and Play.com.

UPDATE: Just wanted to make a special mention of Polish publisher IQ Publishing, which is working me at the moment on FULL voice and text localisation. They’re really going the extra mile to make sure the Polish boxed version is extra special.

Indie Business

I left a teaching position at the Academy of Interactive Entertainment yesterday, to pursue some iPad game porting contract work. My time at the AIE was pretty great, but ultimately if I get a good chance to be out in the industry trying to make a go of being a game developer then I have to take it.

One cool thing to come out of it was a small series of indie business talks I gave to the final year students there. It’s no secret that the Australian games industry is in a tough time of transition at the moment, so students are looking at their options regarding working in the games industry, one of those options being starting an indie studio. While I don’t recommend students come straight out and start an indie studio without experience in a bigger studio, if that’s you’re only choice, it’s a good idea to try to be as prepared as possible. The AIE has graciously let me share the links to the indie business presentations I prepared on their time, which you can find here:

Indie Business 101
Indie Business 102

By the way, if anyone wants me to put some words to the presentations, I’d be more than happy to come and speak, please contact me via the contact page.

Jolly Marketing Machine

Well, it’s about time I posted some more news. The Best Australian Game award news has been up long enough!

The Jolly marketing machine has been slowing lately, but I recently had the pleasure of doing an interview with the Black Panel, which has been presented oh-so-nicely here.

Also a couple of other things I just found out recently. There’s an extended interview with me on Good Game and I made a brief appearance on Channel 10’s The Circle (27th of August, Andrew McLelland). I was also suprised at FreePlay by the folks from Making Stuff is Fun, who popped a mic in front of me and asked me some questions on the floor. Thanks guys!

BEST AUSTRALIAN GAME!!

I can now say "The award-winning Jolly Rover".Jolly Rover just won Best Australian Game at FreePlay!

This is a huge honour for me, and a credit to the team that worked very hard to make this dream a reality!

I can now say “The award winning Jolly Rover”… it occurs to me that I now need some kind of “Awards” section on the site. But until such time, you can check out the award prettiness here.

Hopefully this award can in some way help me to continue doing what I love with awesome people, and mean the Jolly Rover sequel doesn’t take too long to come out.

In the Zone

Jolly Rover rubs shoulders with giants in this list of Gamezone’s Top Games of 2010 Thus Far.

FreePlay is on the horizon, and with it the soon-to-be-coveted FreePlay Awards of which Jolly Rover is up for Best Australian Game and Best Audio. This weekend I’ll be finalising how I’m going to coordinate the Everything Old is New Again panel, and getting some assets to potentially show on the One Man Band panel.

Oh and I just ordered this tacky marketing device. I hope it comes before FreePlay and PAX. Oh yeah, I’m going to PAX.

Two more reviews to tell about. There’s this one from Indie Gamer Review (4/5). And this highly entertaining video review from Davin Da Geek. Davin is one cool guy, and his enthusiasm for Jolly Rover can’t be denied, so please support him by giving the video a look!

Jolly Awards!

Yesterday I recieved word from the nice folks at FreePlay that Jolly Rover was nominated for two awards – Best Australian Game and Best Game Audio. Also, I found out I’ll be presenting Jolly Rover to the public on the expo floor, that’s when I’m not talking on the ‘One Man Band’ panel or chairing the ‘Everything Old is New Again panel’. FreePlay is shaping up to be a big event for Jolly Rover.

One review and one interview this week. The review from Czech website FreeHry.cz (75%), and the interview from my old university RMIT.

Christmas in July

Jolly Christmas everyone! Enter BOSN000LS in the Discount code area of the Jolly Rover Steam key buy page for 50% off the retail price of Jolly Rover, this weekend only!

In other news there are two new reviews and one interview! One review from Gameboomers (B+) and the other from Cheat Code Central (4/5). The interview is with Adventure Classic Gaming and I think achieves the award for the longest and most in-depth interview yet, complete with previously unreleased concept art images!
